There are hundreds if not thousands of resources online as well teacher guides and other resource books that will list methods and examples of using manipulatives. This approach refers to an “Inductive Method” of guiding learners to discuss and use ideas already acquired as a means of discovering new ideas. Smith uses techniques that reflect each of her students' intelligences, she also allows them to work in flexible groupings of pairs, triads, quads, small groups, and whole groups. Worksheets may be appropriate for practice, but they are not useful for introducing new information and skills. I am always excited to learn something new, and I’ve learned quite a bit in the last few years about how the ladder method can help students with different math concepts (I didn’t learn this method when I was in school)!

This sort of instructional design improves the quality of instruction and maximizes the time that students spend learning by making it possible for teachers to provide direct instruction to small groups of students who are performing at similar levels.
